This critical legislation includes many priorities for the sportfishing industry, including funding for fish habitat restoration, pollution reduction in the Chesapeake Bay, invasive species management, and the protection of traditional tackle. #chesapeakebay #aquaticinvasivespecies #NFHP #ASAFishing #KeepAmericaFishing Open Last week, U.S. Rep. @rep_peltola (D-AK) introduced legislation to strengthen the protections issued for the headwaters of Bristol Bay last year. The Bristol Bay Protection Act” would further solidify the Environmental Protection Agency’s determination that mining the Pebble deposit would have unacceptable adverse impacts on the fisheries, wildlife and recreational areas. The bill would congressionally prohibit the discharge of mine waste into rivers, lakes and wetlands that surround the Pebble deposit. Legislation would solidify these protective measures, making them more difficult to overturn in the future. #nopebblemine #savebristolbay #KeepAmericaFishing Open Sometimes, the fish is the least important part of the adventure. In this case, it’s learning from your losses to set up future success, the selflessness of sharing a fight with a younger sibling, and the camaraderie of those that share time together on the water. It’s so much more than fishing. ? ? @fly__high_eli #fishing #takeakidfishing #FishingShareTheFun #KeepAmericaFishing Open Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed Congressman Rob Wittman’s Protecting Access for Hunters and Anglers Act. Mike Leonard, Vice President of Government Affairs for the American Sportfishing Association, released the following statement: Bans on traditional tackle put an undue financial burden on anglers and businesses and this important legislation will keep fishing both affordable and accessible for 54.5 million Americans who enjoy spending time on the water with family and friends. The sportfishing industry thanks @reprobwittman , Chairman @repwesterman, and the 49 additional cosponsors for their support of the Protecting Access for Hunters and Anglers Act (H.R. 615). Through yesterday’s House passage, Members showed their commitment to protecting the use of traditional fishing tackle, such as lead sinkers and jigs, on federal waters and following the best available science along with consulting state agencies before potentially enacting limitations on recreational fishing equipment. Thank you for your support on this important bill and your continued support of @keepamericafishing. The bill now heads to the U.S. Senate. Stay tuned for the opportunity to send a message supporting the bill to your Senators. #Anglers #Hunters #ASAFishing #KeepAmericaFishing Open Load More Follow on Instagram $ 0 Anglers contributed just under $100 million to Vermont’s economy.
